to HabershamCounty.com -
Habersham County was created on Dec. 18, 1818. It was named for Colonel
Joseph Habersham and was originally 31 miles long and 23 miles wide, with
an area of 713 square miles.
Habersham's mountains, lakes
and rivers make it a nature lover's paradise. Located in the foothills
of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the county is crossed by parts of the Chattahoochee
National Forest, and the Tallulah and Tugaloo Rivers.
Annual
Events in Habersham County include the Mountain Laurel Festival held
in Clarkesville every May, the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair each September,
and the Big Red Apple Festival in October.
