A beautiful hiking trail that leads to many views of the land around the mountain. Hiking is moderate at the bottom of the mountain but becomes moderately difficult in areas as you climb in elevation. The hike is estimated to be about 6 miles round trip. Rockclimbing and repelling areas are around the top. The main wall provides close to a hundred climbs that vary from very easy to extremely difficult. Other smaller trails lead to various areas on the mountain, either to viewing or rockclimbing points. Bathrooms are located in the gravel parking area and near the top. No water fountains, so bring your own water! No parking fee. Directions to Yonah Mountain Hiking Trail: From Cleveland: Take Hwy 75 north towards Helen. Turn right on Tom Bell Rd at the West Family Restaurant. Then take an immediate left on Chambers Rd. looking for the second gravel road on your left. You will see the parking lot with kiosk and restrooms. From Clarkesville: Take Hwy 17 north towards Helen. Turn left onto Hwy 75 south towards Cleveland. Then turn left on Tom Bell Rd at the West Family Restaurant. Take an immediate left on Chambers Rd. looking for the second gravel road on your left. You will see the parking lot with kiosk and restrooms. Sometimes the Army has large groups of Ranger trainees from Camp Frank D. Merrill on the mountain so be flexible with your climbing plans if they are on the mountain. At present they are only using a small fraction of the overall climbing resource so there is still plenty of climbing to be done when they are training. |
